ROOM 301: Roommate, Classmate, Bridesmaid
I can’t remember now how I felt when I first met the girl in Bed E, but I think I was a little bit intimidated by her. 😆
We’re both introverts, so we are both careful around new people. But I felt like she had the authoritative air of a first-born child, and I knew I was a stubborn, defiant middle child.
(I probably still am… 😆)
I was not sure if I had to be careful around her like I was with my eldest sister; but she gave me a huge, open smile and asked if I was the one who was also going to study Development Communication.
I am careful around new people; but give me little treats of warmth and kindness, and I will jump around you like a golden retriever. 😆
So the girl in Bed E became a part of my pack, and we spent the next four years taking the same classes, sharing notes and gossip, choosing the same major, and even staying up all night trying to finish the final project for our computer science course while regretting our decision to take it as an elective. 😆
After university, we spent less time with each other. But throughout the years we made sure to keep in touch and be in each other’s lives. She always comes to see me when I go back to the Philippines, and I make time to see her and our other friends when I do.
A year ago, she asked me to be one of her bridesmaids on her wedding day. 💐
I disapproved of all except one of the men she had in her life (she knows this 😂), but five years ago when she told us about a man she had met through work, I had a good feeling in my belly. 😆
So I was excited for her when she was told us that he had asked her out on a date.
Six months later, when they became boyfriend/girlfriend, I was thrilled at how steady things were going for them.
Three years after that, when they decided to rent an apartment together, I realized things had gotten REALLY SERIOUS and started to tease her about getting a ring. 😆
She said they’d talked about it, but they wanted to be financially secure before making any decisions AND he hadn’t proposed yet. 😆
Then last year, he took her out to celebrate her birthday and after their dinner, he asked a waitress to take a picture of them out at the balcony with views of the forest and the lake below.
Before the waitress could take a picture, he went down on one knee and proposed. 😍
The waitress who was pretending to take their picture was actually taking a video, so later I was able to watch my friend look at him in surprise and then laugh and then wipe tears of joy from her eyes.
It was SUCH a beautiful moment. Even now as I am remembering it, my heart is warm and my eyes become teary. 😆
I’m really, really happy that she found someone who I think will love and care for her for the rest of her life. 😊😊🥰🥰
Two months later on this day, they will be married.
And I am happy to be one of those who will be there to celebrate their first day together as husband and wife. 😁😁🥰🥰🥰
