Yesterday a student said he read or saw something on the news about Duterte, and I asked him what it was about because there are a lot of things on the Philippine news about Duterte recently. A few things I know are:
- He has declined European grants (around a total of 250 million euros) because Europe has been criticizing the drug-related deaths in the Philippines.
- Since he has declined help from Europe, he’s asking help from China and Moscow instead.
- He has declared Martial Law in the southernmost island of the Philippines because of recent attacks from Muslim groups. Some people are afraid that soon he will use this to declare martial law in the whole country the same way that Marcos did in the 1970s.
