Belated
It is now eleven days since 2022 began, and today is the first day of lessons for the juku this year.
In my last post last year, I wrote about greeting in advance. In this post, I will write about greeting after a particular day has passed.
“Belated” means happening later than the normal or proper time. If we forget to greet a friend of their birthday, for example, we can say, “Belated happy birthday!”
For me, right now, I can say, belated happy new year to everyone! ✨
I think it’s a useful word, especially if you’re someone who forgets their friends’ birthday (like me); but when I see my students this week and greet them, I don’t think I’ll use it because it probably won’t be as weird for them to hear just “happy new year” now that that the new year has come.
