or Thank God it’s Friday is an expression used in the English language to say, “Finally it’s Friday and the weekend starts tomorrow, so I don’t have to go to school or work.”.

The origin of the word is not clear but it may have been invented in 1965. Nowadays, it’s more commonly used by young adults but I think most English speakers have used it or at least heard it spoken by someone — two famous American singers used it as a title of their song!

Since the expression already has a complete thought you can use it on it’s own, but you can also use it in a sentence. For example:

  1. I’m so happy it’s Friday. TGIF.
  2. I’ve had a very busy week, TGIF.

I’m not sure if a lot of people in Japan can use this expression too because some people go to school or work on Saturdays, but for some people tomorrow is a holiday and today is a Friday so TGIF!
