A supermoon is a full moon or a new moon that appears larger and brighter than usual because the moon is at its closest distance to the Earth.

The last supermoon this year, and the most recent one, was on December 3. The next one, and the first one next year, is on January 2.
I didn’t know there was a supermoon occurrence, but I noticed that the moon has been very bright especially because the sky has been clear in the evenings. If you’ve noticed the bigger and brighter moon too, you now know what it’s called in English!
