Day 21: Lamina Ocean Bottle

When I read the title (さびし海ぼうず) of today’s story, I thought the English translation would be “The Sad Ocean Boss,” but Google translated it into: Lamina Ocean Bottle.

I’m not sure which of us is right, but I thought Google’s translation was funny. It was also useful because it taught me a new word.

lamina – a thin layer of sedimentary rock or other material

Another word I learned from reading this story was 船頭. When I was reading I thought it was the name of a person, and I wondered why kanji characters were used instead of katakana like in the previous stories; but I looked it up and found out that it actually means boatman.
