Undas
In the Catholic calendar, November 1 is All Saints’ Day. In the Philippines, it is called Undas. It is the time when people celebrate the Feast of All Saints’ Day, but I don’t really know what that means because in the Philippines most people celebrate this day by going to the cemetery to visit the graves of dead relatives and friends.
People light candles and bring flowers to the cemetery. They also bring food and drinks and a picnic mat, and have a picnic right beside the grave of their loves ones and all the other graves in the cemetery. I think it’s creepy to picnic with so many dead bodies around me, but I think many other people enjoy it.
Some people even do those things at night, so some cemeteries would have a lot of burning candles in the evening. I’ve never gone to the cemetery at night for Undas, and I don’t think I ever will. I don’t think I will also every enjoy having a picnic around someone’s grave either, but I think it’s an interesting practice.
