UPCAT

The UPCAT or University of the Philippines College Admission Test is today, and knowing this made me remember the day I took the exam.

I was 16 and cold and hungry and a little sleepy.I’m not a morning person so I wasn’t happy that the exam was at 7 am in the morning.

morning person – a person who wakes up, without difficulty, early each morning and is alert and active during the first part of the day

I was also nervous, of course, but the nervousness disappeared while I was taking the test. The test is right-minus-wrong so I didn’t make any guesses. I only answered the questions that I was sure of.

right-minus-wrong – a scoring method wherein the number of mistakes are subtracted from the number of correct answers

There was a time limit for each section and we couldn’t go back to the previous section, which was difficult because there was a lot to read in the reading comprehension part.

There were some questions I couldn’t answer because I wasn’t sure, and there were some questions I couldn’t answer because there wasn’t enough time. It doesn’t matter now because I passed, which is great because I wanted to go to UP and I didn’t want to disappoint my dad.

It’s been years since that day, and I’m still glad that I took the test and I passed because those four years in university are some of the most important years of my life.
