Despacito

A few months ago I found a song that I really liked, but I couldn’t understand it because it’s in Spanish. I still listened to it because I liked the melody and I think Spanish language is beautiful.

I don’t know how many times I have listened to it already but I still can’t understand it because I can’t speak Spanish. But I have learned some words because of listening to it.

I learned despacito (it means slowly in Spanish) from the very beginning because I checked it on the internet. By listening to it I learned to say sabes, que, contigo, el metal, ya me está, pasito a pasito, suave suavecito, poquito a poquito, and tus lugares favoritos.

When I listened to it again last week I wanted to sing some parts so I listened to a slow part again and again and again until I finally could sing Vamos a hacerlo en una playa en Puerto Rico together with the singer.

Learning new words, phrases, and expressions through a song can be difficult and it can take a lot of time. But if it is something you enjoy, I think it’s useful and a fun way to learn.
