Japanese Lesson: Forgetting Words

There was a new word I came across today in my textbook: ようじ. My teacher explained to me what it means and I understood it, but when I saw it again two pages later I asked her what it meant AGAIN. I forgot that I already learned it and she reminded me.

When I saw the word again two pages later, I knew I had learned it but I couldn’t remember the meaning at all. My teacher reminded me again and I told her it’s a difficult word to remember. I think the reason why it was difficult is because I cannot relate it to an English word I already know that could help me remember the meaning. However, forgetting it many times lead to one good thing: I can remember it now. But I don’t know if I can remember it next lesson or even tomorrow.
